Live Album Now Available

09/11/2014

Fifty Rounds, G.W. Mercure's first live album and second solo album is now available at gwmercure.bandcamp.com.

The album, recorded during appearances in 2012 and 2013 at The Mediator Stage in Providence, features seven songs not found on Mercure’s previous releases, including a performance of Bob Dylan’s Shooting Star, and Mercure’s flagship Songs About Trains, in addition to songs from 2013’s Kitchen Hymns and a guest appearance by rising singer-songwriter Tracie Potochnik. The songs were recorded by Scott Lewis and produced by Lewis, Mercure, and Mediator Stage host Don Tassone.

Introducing The Baskethouse at Cafe Zog

08/23/2014

The Baskethouse with G.W. Mercure will begin on Saturday, 08/23, at Cafe Zog, 239 Wickenden Street in Providence. In the style of "basket-house" events popular at bars and cafes around New York City in the 1950s and 1960s, musical acts and poets will rotate sets keeping live performances going throughout the night, passing a basket for tips between sets. Cafe Zog is an iconic and appropriate host for this event, having been open for many years when G.W. played his first gig in 1993, across the street from Zog at Fellini's. The seminal Spoken Word Poetry Reading, which helped launch the careers of many poets and songwriters, including Sage Francis, Catie Curtis, Peter Mulvey, Kate Rushin, Allysen Callery, Derek Prosper and others started at Cafe Zog in 1992. In Zog's nearly thirty years on Wickenden Street, the cafe has quietly become iconic and there is no better spot for The Baskethouse to be reborn. Every Saturday night, 8PM through 10:30. All ages and free to get in.
